About Pyr
A Viera born in the New Sharlayan colony in Dravania, they studied alchemy, aetherology, and the healing arts of the Sage. During their free time they could most often be found exploring the mountains and forests of the Hinterlands, harvesting plants, picking flowers, and mixing things together to see what would happen.
Endlessly curious, Pyrciel tries to puzzle out any mystery in front of them, often to great frustration. They need to know how things work and interplay, whether that be individuals, organizations, or natural forces. They tend to be reserved, and are hesitant to act until they have achieved that understanding of people and factors at play. With said understanding often comes the urge to try to improve things, whether that be by advising, influencing, or directly addressing the situation, but said urge is tempered by their fear of inadvertently making everything worse. Still, they are rarely able to walk away.
They're prone to getting lost in their own head, often getting trapped within their own lines of thinking. Rather, they often look to someone they respect for direction, and feel most comfortable when doing so. They have a tendency to think very highly of such people, and strongly seek their approval; failure and disappointment is keenly felt. If they're unsure of how someone feels about them, they typically assume the worst.
In battle they are reactive as opposed to active, rarely making the first move. They instead rely on both physical and magical shields to hold fast, then counter what is thrown at them. This may be direct, but is often in the form of support for comrades, be it shielding, healing, or clearing their way. They put much stock in preparation and optimization through enchantments and alchemical concoctions; anything to give an edge.
On the First, their curiosity brought them close to Emet-Selch—despite their better judgement. His odd demeanor, fondness for Pyr, and their inexplicable trust towards him soon pulled them into a relationship. Their failure in his eyes, and all that followed, remains a deep scar, yet his entrusting them with the Azem crystal carried them through the worst of their despair. The more they learned of their past, and the more suffering they encounter in the world, the more they wish there had been a better way.
